Sowriammal saw the discrimination against Dalits as a violation of her right. Her association with the Tamil Nadu Dalit Women's Movement enhanced her capacity as a Dalit women leader. From the position of being a victim she became a champion and protector of Dalit rights. This led her to organise and conduct public meetings condemning the discrimination against her caste. Her means of educating women and her caste was so effective that she had to pay the price for it when other men belonging to another caste conspired to kill her two sons. Despite this huge blow, she remains steadfast and continues to fight against human rights violations and caste atrocities in her community.
