Saroja is seen to be in the front line of women especially with the minorities. She has provided a voice for all affected people specially with women in times of war, disasters, armed conflicts and in everyday violent occurrences such as abduction, and threats to life. Her education and experience in the field of teaching became her fuel of dedication to assert the rights of hill country women, rural women, trade unionists, youth and the community. She lectured on issues such as human rights, women's rights, gender equality, racial discrimination and conflict resolutions which raised the awareness of community members. Her work has led her to connect with communities from North to South who all recognise her efforts.
Her vast experience is strengthened by a lot of seminars and workshops that she attended not only locally but also internationally. In 1988, she founded the Women's Development Center which is renowned nationally and globally, became the voice for the women whose husbands disappeared and whose children died in war. Saroja, from the Jaffna Tamil community, is committed to uplift the lives of women and remains to be an inspiration to many women.
