Inspired and motivated by her exposure from the trainings and protest meetings from the Rural Women's Liberation Movement, Poongodi started to get directly involved in addressing social issues and discrimination against women. She has conducted training programmes and leads other women to fight for justice and peace. In their village, she once stood bravely and gave shelter to many Dalit youth and courageously fought for Dalit rights in the midst of caste violence, brutal attacks and unwarranted arrests perpetrated by the police. Poongodi, in her fight for justice for the Dalits, was able to assert recogntion of Dalit rights among the government officials.
