"Struggle for women fisherfolk's dignity."
This is the constant reminder of Mba Nuk to herself whenever she is faced with the hardships as a fisherfolk. Due to poverty and patriarchy, women fisherfolk are exploited as they had to perform multiple jobs constantly: preparing the household needs, attending to their families and going out to sea. By stepping up and being involved, she influenced and inspired other women to be part of a collective in finding alternative solutions to uplift their way of life. Mba Nuk eventually succeeded and is one of the initiators of Puspita Bahari, an organisation that pushes for gender equality and assertion of rights. She assisted in raising awareness, and building the capacities and skills of their members. Over time, she was able to set up a snack production and marketing whereby members get to earn extra income. Her selflessness and strength resulted in the success of her endeavours since she opened even her own home to the members and for her cause. Now, Puspita Bahari has approximately 100 members, with various alliances such as KIARA, and involved in the empowerment of women of Morodemak coastal village.
