"My goal in life is to bring all my efforts into the development of our community…to advance gender equality…My priorities are - to involve women into full public and economic life, to bring more women into Rural Council, to create more opportunities for young women and girls, to improve rural environment and to save natural resources, to make my community and Government to understand that without consideration of women's human rights-real development is impossible."

Alya is a leader and activist of various organisations coming from being a rural school teacher and mother of a big family with multiple responsibilities. She assisted in developing projects for the realisation of women's rights to land, improvement of labour opportunities for women with small kids, and creating more opportunities for sustainable livelihoods for poor families, among others. One of her successes is engaging the legal system on land ownership, registration and distribution, with women having rights to do such. She also managed to integrate gender analysis and approaches into rural strategic development and local budget, as the deputy of Rural Council. She also helped in creating a resource center for the village where rural women can access information, new technologies and a space for training. With Novopokrovka being a multi-ethnic village, Alya also strives to maintain peace and social justice among the villagers.
